It really amazes me how much racism is alive and thriving these days. You would think by now it would be a non-factor or close enough to it but instead it seems to be re-invented everyday. Before I go any further let me say this, I am proud to be black and I take pride in my culture and what my race as a whole has overcome. POWER TO THE PEOPLE! And by no means do I have a problem with people because of the color of their skin but I do have a problem with people that do. I have come to learn that we have more in common with others not in our race we just do not take the time to get to know one another. Sometimes circumstances and situations such as kids playing on the same little league, working on a project together at work, being snowed in at Walmart together puts us in a position to interact with someone that does not look like us and they do not come from where we come from but we soon find we are more alike that what we realize. It is sad that some people are taught to hate someone because of the color of their skin. And of course it carries over for generations until someone decides to treat all mankind the same. It also is mind boggling how some seem to think we need to let go of history and move forward. I do not believe we should dwell on the past but to act like it never happened or that it was not as bad as we make it sound is an insult. That is like adding salt to the wound. Of course I do not think we should keep pointing the finger or playing the blame game or even categorizing everyone in an ethic group as the same. There is an old saying that one apple spoils a bunch, that is not always the case. I personally have come to love some great people of other races. We have to learn to accept that we are different but that does not mean we should be indifferent toward one another.
